EMAP Looks Forward to a Productive 2012

Print PDF

Happy New Year!  The year 2011 has proven to be successful for EMAP and our organization foresees this success to carry on throughout 2012.  As you know, EMAP continues the good faith efforts for emergency management programs with strengthening our partnerships.  By encouraging the value of accreditation to all shapes and sizes of jurisdictions continues to strengthen our emergency management efforts on a national scale. Other highlighted projects that will continue in 2012 are: working with the United States Army Corp of Engineers in accrediting their installations; Event Strategic Reviews; baselines for the top 25 United States’ cities as well as our state programs; and piloting the assessment process within Institutions of Higher Education.  The EMAP mission allows us to foster excellence and accountability in emergency management and homeland security programs as well as expand to other markets that see the value in a reputable, well prepared emergency management program.  These continued efforts are proving the scalability of our standards to any sized jurisdiction and a continuation of how EMAP is truly an intricate piece to emergency management.

Event Strategic Review Program Opportunity

EMAP and partnering stakeholders have developed the Event Strategic Review (ESR) Program.  The goal of the ESR Program is to collect and identify priority issues, corrective actions, lessons learned and best practices for improvement of existing after action processes used for exercises and real world events.  The purpose of the pilot Program is to utilize the EMAP independent peer-review process to collect and analyze data that will support and assist the partnering stakeholders to include the participating Program in meeting their mutual missions to benefit both the profession of emergency management and our collective ability to protect the citizens we serve.  The ESR Program expenses are covered through our cooperative agreement with FEMA thus providing participating Programs with a “complimentary” review. The Program will also provide an opportunity for participating Emergency Management Programs to benefit directly by having a third party review documentation and provide a summary report of aggregate data that may highlight past, current and potential performance measures and capabilities.  This would assist in identifying areas of needed improvement and also validate areas of merit. In addition, the Program will have direct input into the improvement process and testing of the ESR Application (ESRA) currently in development.
